According to ESPN, the luxury British car company recently began selling a version of its Vanquish S Volante model designed by the New England Patriots quarterback. The company plans to market just 12 total — the same number Brady, who currently drives a 2017 Aston Martin DBII, wears on his jersey — and sell each for $359,950.
“We started with a blank canvas and finished with a beautiful car,” Brady said in a statement (via ESPN). “It’s been great to see it all come to fruition.”
Whoever the 12 people who purchase these vehicles are, they better be fans. The car will be littered with Brady’s signature “TB12″ logo from its fender to the headrests. The car also only comes in one color — a bluish black hue called “ultramarine black” with dark leather interior.
The cars are expected to start shipping next year.
The release of Brady’s car design comes just five months after he first signed a promotional deal with Aston Martin.
“Tom is an inspirational leader and athlete who is clearly aligned with our view of Aston Martin,” Marek Reichman, the company’s chief creative officer, said in a statement at the time. “His performances on the football field — not just recently but throughout his career — are an inspiration for us all.”
Brady’s performance this season, however, has been a little less than his usual stellar. Although still atop the AFC East, the Patriots are not unbeatable, and there remains a real fight for the title as the midpoint of the NFL season approaches.
“This is when we really have to hit the accelerator,” Brady said Wednesday, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “That’s what the good teams do. … To get to 6-2 would be huge for this team.”
New England is just a half-game ahead of the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills in the division. The New York Jets lag behind with a 3-4 record.
The Patriots are slated to host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, with a struggling defense now that linebacker Dont’a Hightower has reportedly been ruled out for the rest of the season. Unlike the enthusiasm he showed for his car design, Brady is approaching the game with caution.
“This [Chargers] team is hot, they’ve won three straight, and they have a really good defense,” he told reporters Wednesday. “There is nothing easy about it.”
