UPDATE: Man charged after wearing clown mask while jumping out … – WSAZ-TV

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A man has been arrested after he was seen wearing a clown mask and jumping out at cars as they drove by.

Kevin Hancock, 45, of Belle, is charged with wearing of masks, possession of meth, marijuana and roxycodone and public intoxication.

According to the criminal complaint, a passerby told a trooper they saw a person wearing a clown mask and scaring cars on Witcher Creek Road.

The trooper went to the area and saw a person running around the road wearing the mask.

The trooper turned on his lights and Hancock removed the mask and stopped.

According to the criminal complaint, Hancock was extremely fidgety. He would also stand and sit repetitively and had problems keeping attention to what the trooper was asking him.

When troopers asked why Hancock was wearing the mask, he was too impaired to give any sensible answers.

“He was not in his right mind,” Senior Trooper R.S. Minor II said. “He was mumbling, not making a lot of sense.”

Troopers found crystal meth, roxycodone and marijuana on Hancock.

Several neighbors say the real scary part was what could have happened to Hancock if he scared the wrong person too badly.

Summer Dunlap did not see the clown, but drives the road every day.

“I would be mainly concerned that someone like that would jump out in front of my vehicle with me driving with my little boy,” Dunlap said. “Because, nervous as I am, I’m not gonna stop, I’m gonna keep going. I wouldn’t wanna hurt somebody but, don’t want him to hurt me either.”

“Somebody could’ve been afraid and in retaliation harmed him,” Trooper Minor said. “You don’t joke that you’re gonna shoot up a school or put a bomb on a plane and with the current country situation, where there’s a story about a clown chasing kids with an ax, you probably shouldn’t wear masks and attempt to scare folks.”

Hancock was taken to South Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $5,000.
